They are designed for transportation of slurries (sludges), which are produced during processing of ore or other non-ore minerals, sands and other abrasive mixtures. The solids contained in the slurry (hydraulic mixture) shall not be greater than 6 mm and the density of the mixture shall not be greater than 2 200 kg/m3.
The pumps are manufactured in 6 sizes: PG 60/20, PG 160/32, PR 250/28, PR 400/35, PR 800/31.5 and PR 1 250/31.5. The first figure (e.g. 400), gives the output in m3/hour, and the second (e.g. 35), gives the head in m water column.
They are centrifugal, single stage, with central (on-axis) suction. The shaft is horizontal. It is bearing in a separate bearing body with rolling bearings. The design allows lubrication with both oil and grease. All parts that are in contact with the abrasive hydraulic compound are lined with a special wear-resistant rubber compound. These parts naturally wear out faster and in order to be replaced quickly and conveniently, the pump body is divided vertically into two halves. The pump can be mounted directly on a foundation or via a removable frame. The frame allows for more convenient handling when replacing worn parts.
The clearance between the impeller face and the opposite casing wall is essential for good pump performance. Therefore, a very convenient and quick adjustment of this clearance is provided, by means of an adjusting bolt the bearing body is displaced axially.
The shaft seal to the side of the pump casing is a gland seal. Clean wash water is fed into the bilge to prevent abrasive mixture from entering the pump side of the bilge. The pressure at the inlet of the packer must also be twice the pressure at the pump. It is recommended to install a manometer to control the water pressure. In addition, it is desirable to install an interlock device to stop the pump from operating when no flushing water is being supplied. It should be borne in mind that after each stoppage of the pump from operation, the flushing water should be allowed to flow for a few minutes after stopping.
The drive electric motor is placed on a platform above the pump itself. This saves a lot of mounting area. The torque transmission from the electric motor to the pump shaft is via V-belts. Tensioning them is convenient and simple – by lifting the platform.
The V-belt gear allows, by using V-belt pulleys of the appropriate diameter, to precisely select the pump speed depending on the specific use case.
PR type pumps can also operate by suction from a certain depth depending on the density of the hydraulic mixture, but cavitation can also occur. To prevent cavitation, it is recommended to work below the bay, i.e. to suck from a tank that is placed at the pump level.
The design of the pump allows connection to the irrigation pipeline at an angle from 0 to 180 degrees through 45 degrees. Together with the pumps, elastic couplings are supplied for connection to the suction and discharge piping. They avoid the transmission of vibrations from the pumps to the pipelines and their damage. If two or three pumps are connected in series in order to obtain a higher delivery height, pumps with reinforced casings must be used.
