It is used for classification – separation of fine-milled particles from the large-milled particles in certain slurry, i.e. particles mixed with water.
The Akin spiral-type classifier is a large pot mounted at a given inclination. It is fitted with one or two rotating spirals (screws). The spiral periphery is lined with wear-resistant tiles.
The unclassified slurry is fed into the bottom of the pot on the left or right side depending on the flow chart. Water surface with sufficient area is formed there, so that the large -grained particles can precipitate. While rotating, the spiral located close to the bottom transport these sands to the top of the pot, where they go out through an opening and are fed into the flow chart for further processing.
The fine particles mixed with water overflow from the front edge of the classifier and fall into a process chute connected to the flow chart and then the classified slurry is fed into the flow chart for further processing. The classified slurry chute and the sand chute are not included of the scope of delivery of the classifier.
Its optimal operation can be selected by adjusting the height of the spirals, i.e. through moving the bottom closer or away. The classifier is mounted on concrete columns or steel structure. It does not require special maintenance. The wear-resistant tiles are subject to normal wear and should be replaced, when necessary. They are fastened with screws which facilitates their removal.
